Logo Trends

Trends, of absolutely everything and anything, constantly change and in the world of graphic design, this always holds true.  What is in today may be out tomorrow.  While trends change, the importance of having a great logo will never change.  We wanted to take some time to reflect on some of the top trends we have seen in logo designs over the past few years.  We have come across some great trends as well as some trends we think should disappear, but regardless, here are some of the top 5 trends alive and well in the realm of logo design:

1- Fun with font– As a Chicago Design firm, we love designing logos for clients, but we’ll be the first to tell you that picking out a font for a logo is one of the most difficult parts of the job.  With millions to choose from, it can be very challenging selecting that perfect font.  Over the last few years, we have really seen lots of fun logo fonts.  While the font chosen can still be unique, the most important thing for a logo font is that it is legible.

ecolution_for_blog2- Go Green!– With a world obsessed with being environmentally-friendly (and hey! rightly so!) we have seen plenty of logos take the ‘go green’ approach.  What better way to draw in customers than boasting that your company cares about the world.

3- Buttons– Perhaps it stems from Facebook’s ‘Like’ button, but over the past few years, and more commonly now, we have been noticing alot of logo designs that feature buttons.  Typically these button logos have an almost shiny look or feature some sort of blending or gradient effect.  We don’t suggest the button idea, but perhaps in the right context a button could work.

Bravo-buble-logo4- Bubbles– Talk/speech bubbles are pretty common amongst logos and when used right can be pretty effective.  What does that talk/speech bubble say about a company?  It promotes communication.  Social apps are all about communication so the bubble makes sense to help promote the fact that the company is all about communication

5- Strange shapes– The use of strange shapes has become quite popular amongst logos.  While traditionally it was commonplace to use squares, circles and occasionally a triangle in logo designs, we are seeing more use of unusual shapes these days.  Multi-sided figures and all sorts of strange shapes are making their way into today’s logo designs.
