NBC, the National Broadcasting Company, has been around for a long, long time. Since the day of its launch, the network has had a handful of logos; however, one has become more famous than the rest. The “peacock” logo.

It was not until May 12, 1986, when NBC introduced the new logo to the country and the world. Of course, this was not the first time people had seen NBC with a peacock logo, but this one was much simpler and appealing than its feathery predecessor. This was the first time that the peacock logo was used as the network’s official logo.

The feathers in the logo, six of them, represented the six different divisions of NBC: news, sports, entertainment, stations, network, and productions. The logo designer, Steff Geissbuhler from Chermyaeff & Geismar, chose to use the six primary & secondary colors of the RYB color palette to be the colors of the logo.

The peacock can be seen in the whitespace and creates a silhouette for the bird. The bird, and the colors, were chosen to show that NBC is proud of what it broadcasts.
